Culture Strategy for Ontario
ACO stresses need to build heritage into the Culture Strategy Program
November 4, 2015
In September the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS) announced a new initiative, the development of a Culture Strategy for Ontario. The Ministry’s objective is to establish a vision for culture across the province, and they want to know which aspects of Ontario’s culture are valuable to you and your community.
The release issued by the Ministry contains relatively few references to built heritage. We feel it is extremely important that heritage is built into the Culture Strategy program for the Ministry. We will need to pull together a provincial position, but as well we need to have our branches put their oar in at local meetings, talking about how important heritage has been in their community.
The Ministry is planning a series of Town Halls across the province. It is very important for representatives of branches to attend local sessions to stress the importance of including built heritage in the Province’s Culture Strategy.
