ACO IS SEEKING A TREASURER
VOLUNTEER COUNCIL (BOARD) POSITION

Architectural Conservancy Ontario (“ACO”) Council Executive currently seeks a qualified individual to join the Provincial Council (Board) and to assume the role of Treasurer of the organization.
ACO has been involved in preserving Ontario’s architectural and environmental heritage since 1933 by helping communities and owners preserve buildings and structures of architectural merit and places of natural beauty or interest. The organization strategically uses education, advocacy and direct action to encourage the conservation and re-use of structures, cultural heritage districts and landscapes of architectural and historic and cultural significance to inspire and benefit Ontarians. ACO is a registered charitable organization operating through a network of 25 branches and over 300 active volunteers in communities across Ontario, linked by a management office in Toronto. The organization is governed by its Provincial Council and the Council Executive (Board).
The Treasurer acts as a financial advisor to ACO’s the Provincial Council, President and branch treasurers, with overall responsibility for financial oversight of ACO on behalf of the Council Executive. Typical duties include chairing the Finance Committee; advising on budget preparation and ongoing financial reporting to the Executive Council; liaison with the bookkeeper for preparation of financial records; liaison with auditors on the preparation of the annual financial statements; advising on the financial implications of issues brought before the Executive Council; reviewing and recommending policies and procedures; monitoring financial controls and verifying remittances and the annual return to the Canada Revenue Agency. These duties, as well as participating in Executive and Finance Committee and Provincial Council meetings, require approximately 10-15 hours per month. There is no remuneration for ACO Council roles.
The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
• CPA, CMA, CGA or equivalent financial credential;
• 3-5 years’ experience working in a financial management role;
• Experience with NFP accounting and Quick Books desirable;
• Familiarity with CRA regulations regarding charitable organizations;
• NFP Board governance experience desirable, but not essential; and
• Interest or involvement with heritage or architecture or culture.
